Do you have trouble communicating what it is you're looking for with your stylist?
Ever thought you had explained yourself, and then ended up with something completely different than what you wanted?
Today, we're gonna teach you a few key phrases
to help you communicate exactly how you want your hair to look.
LONG LAYERS
lighten the weight of the hair and add swing, by moving from shorter to longer lengths.
long layers work great when wearing the hair curly or wavy, but also add dimension to straight hair.
TAPERING
creates face framing layers that flatter almost any face shape.
TEXTURIZING
reduces weight from heavy sections, while leaving extra length in others.
it's a great, quick way to add sleekness.
RAZORING
is done with a straight edged blade to cut or texturize the hair.
the razor cuts the hair at an angle and provides a piecier, edgy look with more even distribution all over.
girls with curly locks will probably want to forgo a razor cut because it can make the hair appear frizzy and unkept.
STACKING
creates a chic style where layers are "stacked" on top of one another, usually graduating to longer lengths in the front.
SINGLE PROCESS HAIR COLOR
is depositing one color in one step.
it's very versatile because you can make a big change or simply enhance what you already have.
single process isn't the best option for lightening your hair color, because it can make the hair look flat unless you add highlights or lowlights to create dimension.
DEMI-PERMANENT HAIR COLOR
deposits color without lifting, and typically fades after about 28 shampoos.
this is great, low-maintenance way of enhancing your natural haircolor without changing it.
FOILS
lighten or darken the overall color, while allowing for the most control over color placement, for a dramatic or a subtle look.
HIGHLIGHTS
lighten and brighten a solid background hair color.
LOWLIGHTS
add depth and contrast to a light solid look.
We hope this helps you the next time you're in the salon. Remember, if there is any question about how to ask for what you want, it always helps to bring along a picture!
